Card Terms

Discard Tray: Where the cards no longer in play are kept.
Up card: A card that is dealt face up. In baccarat the third card of the deal is an up card.
Shoe: The wooden box in which the cards are stacked.
Palette: A wooden tool that shifts the cards on the table.

Croupier: The dealer in baccarat.
High Roller: A player playing with a big bankroll.
Hands
Le Grande: The best hand in baccarat with a hand value of 9.
Petite: Second best hand in baccarat with the value of 8.
Miscellaneous
House Edge: The advantage that the casino has over players. In baccarat this advantage is the commission charged by the casino on the winnings.
Layout: The baccarat table that shows the different bets that may be made and where these bets are placed.
Standoff: When the banker and the player tie in a baccarat game.
